Bicycling On The Sidewalk

One of the most common quality of life complaints in New York City is bicyclists on the sidewalks. It is obvious a nuisance to pedestrians and, often, can be dangerous. Another common complaint is bicyclists traveling the wrong way on a one-way street.

Last year, 28,000 tickets were issued to bicyclists for committing these infractions. Traffic tickets of these types are actually moving violations for motorists. However, for bicyclists they carry no points and do not even involve a surcharge (just a fine). It seems like the law needs more teeth in order to fix this problem.
