NY Speeding Tickets Do Not Come Via Email

Hillary Clinton’s email storage practices and server security have dominated reporting for roughly a year now.  One item that has surfaced as a result of this story is Hilary’s receipt of speeding tickets via email.  Hackers apparently based in Russia sent five emails containing malware to Hilary’s account.

These emails appeared to be speeding tickets but, in reality, contained a virus.  The emails instructed Hilary to open and print the speeding ticket and contained a “Ticket.zip” file.  If she had “un-zipped” it, the hackers would have  been able to take over her computer and view and copy her data.

Hilary is not alone.  Millions of Americans receive these types of “phishing” emails every day.  Obviously, you should delete them immediately and NEVER open them.  You should know that, in New York State, you will NEVER serve a traffic ticket via email.  In New York City, the Traffic Violations Bureau does use electronic communications but only AFTER a user registers the ticket and/or enters a not guilty plea.

If you receive a “phishing” email of this type, you should delete it immediately and, of course, NEVER open it.
