For those of you stressing out about your speeding violation, it could be worse.

The fastest known speeding ticket was issued in May 2003 in Texas. The motorist was operating a Koenigseggs CCR, a Swedish sports car and was allegedly going 242 mph (389 km/hr) in a 75 mph zone. The driver was arrested and his sport car was towed.

In my firm, the record high speeding ticket defended by us was a 200 mph ticket on the Lido Parkway in Nassau County. Our lead-footed client was charged with exceeding the 55 mph limit in his Porsche Turbo Carrera but the officer failed to write any amount for that speed. The Nassau County Traffic & Parking Violations Agency, located at 16 Cooper Street, Hempstead, NY, has an unusual policy when confronted by such omissions. It inserts 200 mph as the charged speed because their clerks cannot enter the traffic summons unless some number is added to this field. Its policy is thus to insert 200 mph when the officer omits this information.

Anyway, I walked in thinking I was facing a garden variety speeding ticket and instead was told that my client was charged with a whopping 200 mph speeding ticket. Of course, after the excitement for me of fighting such a ticket, I learned of the explanation of the “200 mph” charge and, more importantly, I was able to get this ticket dismissed as defective (i.e., based on the failure to allege how fast over the 55-mph limit my client was proceeding).

In any event, it is a record (albeit with an asterisk). and, more importantly, was chocked up as a win. Click on the link if you’d like to see what a 200 mph traffic ticket looks like as well as the dismissal slip.

  • When you realize you left your phone at home with your Orange County wife you will easily hit 150mph to get back before she sees your Instagram feed. Lol. True storm my colleague got busted for 149mph on the 405 at Newport Beach rushing to get back to the house for his phone.

      Mc Lovin,

Sounds like a bad case of FOMO (glad no one got hurt for such recklessness).

  • Beach city dude allegedly drove by a parked CHP car on purpose at 190 in a modified Audi S8 during the Coronavirus lockdown. The CHP Ford Explorer was a joke. Couldn’t keep up.

      Mc Lovin,

We’ve seen many anecdotes (including yours) confirming that unsafe speeding has been way up during the Pandemic.

      Slimtex,

We do not fight traffic tickets issued in Texas (only those issued in New York State) but recommend that you find a traffic lawyer in the Houston area.

      Good luck!

Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr. received the fastest speeding ticket in California. It was issued for going 186mph while driving his Camaro. It can be verified in the 2018 documentary Den of Thieves.

  • Well whoever that was, I’m sure they were very wealthy seeing as how the CCR wasn’t released until 2004 and the top speed of the car is 242mph. The fact that they were able to get the car almost a year early alone tells me the consequences were most likely nothing to them.

  • how much would the fine for going 242mph be, would you go to prison for it as well

      Viggo Hansen,

In New York, I am sure the maximum allowable plus 15 days in jail (more if the motorist was charged with reckless driving or some other criminal charge).
