Starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020, all eight
NYC Traffic Violation Bureau locations will be closed for one month. There are eight Traffic Violations Bureaus (TVBs) operated by the DMV in the five boroughs of New York City to adjudicate traffic tickets issued in New York City. Two in Manhattan, two in Brooklyn, two in Queens, one in the Bronx and one in Staten Island. Those who are scheduled to appear on or after March 18, 2020 will receive an adjournment notice from the DMV. Most other New York State traffic courts have already closed including the Suffolk County Traffic Violations & Parking Agency and the Nassau County Traffic Violations & Parking Agency.
The TVB and DMV are allowing people to make reservations to perform TVB/DMV tasks which cannot be done online at the State-run offices in the five boroughs of New York City and in Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Albany and Onondaga Counties. The reservation policy will be phased in regionally beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020 through Friday, March 20, 2020. There will be no “walk-ins” allowed in the 27 State-run district offices.
As it relates to New York City traffic tickets, reservations can be made for pleading not guilty to a case with a “required appearance” and getting a new court date for cases on which you missed your court date. Examples of DMV matters for which reservations can be made include applying for a REAL ID or EDL, registering a vehicle for the first time or applying for a learner permit. All other customers should conduct their DMV business online. There are more than 60 transactions available online, including renewing a license or registration, ordering a custom plate, obtaining a driver record (abstract), changing an address, making a payment and much more.
Customers can make a reservation online on the DMV’s website or by calling the reservation hotline at 1-518-626-8990.
