
In Australia, they are experimenting with a cool technology that warns truck drivers of an impending strike by instantaneously producing a sheet of water and projecting a “STOP” sign on it via lasers. These pop-down stop signs have successfully prevented semi trucks from striking various structures including the Sydney Harbour Tunnel. Below shows the dramatic and effective result.

By the way, it’s not quite true that “trucks in New York State are not allowed on any Parkway …” I often see trucks, for instance, on Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn. I always wondered why that was.

Good question! Rockaway “Parkway” is not a controlled-access highway. Trucks are not allowed on any true Parkway (i.e., one that has controlled access in the form of exit and entrance ramps and not traffic signals).
