According the June 2012 issue of Lancet, the receipt of a traffic ticket reduces a driver’s chance of being involved in a fatal accident by 35 percent. Within three to four months, however, the “drive more cautiously” effect of the traffic ticket vanishes.
Even though short-lived, the study concluded that traffic tickets still saves 100s (if not 1,000) of lives each year. More than a million persons die annually and 25 million people are permanently disabled by traffic accidents.
With more than 20 years of experience fighting traffic tickets, I can say that for some getting a ticket is an eye-opening experience. Some clients get very upset about it and so I can see how their driving habits might change. On the other hand, I have dealt with our drivers who don’t get flustered by a traffic ticket. Of course, those kind of clients we call “repeat business”.
Please obey all traffic laws and drive safely.
