UPDATE: Effective November 6, 2024, points from a moving violation conviction count against for DMV purposes for 24 months (formerly 18 months), and a conviction to illegally passing a school bus now carry 8 points (formerly 5).
We’ve been literally swamped this week with inquires and telephone calls from New York City motorists pulled over this week for failing to stop for a school bus. Be extra vigilant to avoid receiving such a ticket (one of the more serious traffic tickets in the books carrying 5 points and a hefty fine).
Update: As of November 6, 2024, school bus violations carry 8 points and a $450+ Driver Responsibility Assessment Fee.
