Play The Wrong Music And Get A Traffic Ticket?

Screen Shot 2013-02-03 at 9.18.16 AMConfused.com, a website that helps motorists shop for auto insurance, recently ran a fascinating experiment about the effects of music on driving behavior. Eight drivers were monitored while listening to different types of music.

Dr. Simon Moore, a psychologist, interpreted the data and found that “music that is noisy, upbeat and increases your heart rate should be avoided”. He added that “the optimum music volume for safe driving is 55 to 65 decibels and the optimum tempo should mimic the human heartbeat at around 60 to 80 beats per minute.”

Below is a sampling of songs that will keep you driving safely:

Come Away With Me – Norah Jones
Billionaire – Travie McCoy with Bruno Mars
I’m Yours – Jason Mraz
The Scientist – Coldplay
Tiny Dancer – Elton John

So next time your driving and “Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones comes on the radio, turn the volume down or your apt to drive unsafely (or even get a traffic ticket).
