New York City's 50 Most Dangerous Intersections

As I wrote a few days ago, I have taken the “training wheels off” this blog by writing more personal items. I will, of course, continue to write about vehicle and traffic issues but will be expanding the scope with my of my posts.

Anyway, today’s post is purely a traffic one. Transportation Alternatives, New York City’s advocates for traffic safety, recently identified 50 of the most dangerous intersections in New York City. The list is based upon the total number of pedestrian injuries and fatalities for the seven-year between 1995 and 2001. It should be noted, however, thatmotor vehicle fatalities are down in 2008 and 2009 nationwide. Indeed, the total number of motor vehicle fatalities in 2008 was the lowest total since 1961.

  • You left out two dangerous Manhattan intersections: 60th and 61st Streets at Broadway. A woman was knocked down in a horrible accident at 61st and Broadway today. I have complained for years about this, and nothing has been done! Are they waiting until a certain quota of people have been maimed or killed before they do anything about it?
