The NY Post reports that over 2.5 million parking tickets were issued between January and March 2008 represented an 8 percent increase (over 200,000 more tickets) compared to last year. The increase is due in part to NYC hiring additional traffic agents. In 2004, the City employed 1,900 traffic agents. It now employs over 2,800 with 238 additional agents being added in June 2008. Although traffic agents do not issue traffic tickets, their increased presence allows for more NYC moving violations to be issued by regular police officers. This trend is evident in the up-tick in motorist tickets and complaints which we have seen at our NY traffic ticket law firm.
